Tubing
There are two common methods used to install PEX for plumbing.
The first is to install PEX pipe just like you would copper. Using this method, you can run two mains; one hot, one cold, and use a fitting for every hookup.
The second method is called a home run system. Using this method, you run a dedicated pipe to every fixture from a manifold, which has multiple ports to tie the water lines into. This method has a couple of advantages; There are fewer fittings and less purge time on the hot water lines to a fixture. This means there is less water wasted while waiting for your water to get hot.
PEX tubing is also the the material of choice for hydronic heating systems, including radiant in-floor heating. NOTE; If using PEX for a closed loop heating application, make sure that your PEX has an oxygen barrier in it.
